Mira Thorne

Summary

From the gutters of Tousir (City), name means “little wonder.”

A young street urchin, once a child of the lower wards and old canals of Tousir (City), who discovered her Aetheric Resonance drew vermin to her. She could hear their thoughts, simple, flickering things about hunger, warmth, and danger, and learned to whisper back. Over the years, she became the The Ratspeaker", a girl the slums whispered about. To some she’s a saint of the lost; to others, a witch of plague.

Her talent is technically a branch of Empathic Thaumaturgy, a minor aether discipline that bonds with collective consciousness; in her case, the hive-mind of rats. However, she’s never been trained, and her other latent powers (probably rooted in deeper empathic manipulation or swarming magic) remain dormant or uncontrolled.

Appearance

  • Wears patchwork layers; oversized coat, rat-nibbled shawl, boots scavenged from the dead.
  • Skin pale and thin from living underground; eyes glint faintly when she uses her power.
  • Rats often perch on her shoulders or coil around her arms; like living jewellery.
  • Carries a lantern powered by a small Aether crystal (her “heart light”), which draws her rats when lit.

Personality

Gentle, melancholic, often lonely. She sees beauty in things others call filth. Her rats are her family; she names them, talks to them, listens to them. Despite her eerie power, she’s deeply kind, often helping the homeless or orphaned.

She distrusts authority, especially the clergy or guilds who would label her “unclean.”
