Emp is the bastard child of a Breeding Imp of Shadow and Nerisai Tülverin. Conceived within Shadow’s domain during Nerisai’s period of captivity and coercion, Emp exists as both living proof of her subjugation and an unwanted tether binding her to her former master. Named by Shadow himself, the imp was forced upon Nerisai and thereafter followed her relentlessly, a reminder she could neither deny nor destroy without consequence.
Emp is a small, wiry imp with a lean, sinewed frame and elongated limbs that give it an unsettling, predatory grace. Its skin is leathery and dark, marked by faint ridges and scars that suggest infernal breeding rather than natural birth although its skin is a lot lighter than normal Imps, and its eyes, a vivid Green, matched its mothers. Long, hooked horns rise from its brow and curve backward, framing sharp, luminous eyes that glow faintly in low light.
Membranous wings sprout from its back, ragged at the edges yet strong enough for short, darting flights. A thin tail trails behind it, expressive and constantly in motion. Emp often carries scraps of parchment, trinkets, or tokens clutched possessively.
Emp is sly, observant, and unnervingly attentive. It speaks rarely unless prompted, preferring to watch and listen, filing away information for reasons that are not always clear. While it shows a warped loyalty to Shadow’s will, its attachment to Nerisai is more complex, a mixture of dependency, motherly need, and possessive fixation.
It delights in reminding Nerisai of her past humiliation, not out of malice alone, but because that memory defines its own existence. Despite this, Emp is not mindlessly cruel. It can be cunning, patient, and even protective in moments where its own survival aligns with hers. Its humour is dark and mocking, learned from the environment in which it was raised.
Emp was conceived within the depths of Shadow’s domain during Nerisai Tülverin’s captivity. The circumstances of his creation were deliberate rather than accidental, part of Shadow’s wider effort to break, humiliate, and bind Nerisai Tülverin to his will. The breeding chambers where Emp was spawned were designed to produce infernal servants loyal by origin, and Emp was named by Shadow as an act of ownership rather than parenthood.
Upon birth, Emp was marked as lesser even among imps. He was not raised for command or autonomy, but as a reminder made flesh. Shadow ensured that Emp was imprinted upon Nerisai Tülverin, compelled to follow her and remain in her presence. This binding was not born of affection, but of punishment. Wherever she was sent, Emp went with her, an unavoidable symbol of her subjugation.
When Shadow eventually released Nerisai Tülverin back into the wider world as his servant, Emp was sent with her. Shadow framed this as a gift, though both understood its true purpose. Emp acted as watcher, reminder, and living proof of ownership, carrying fragments of Shadow’s influence within his mind. Through Emp, Shadow could be assured that Nerisai Tülverin never fully escaped the consequences of her captivity.
Over time, as Nerisai Tülverin’s power grew and her identity began to fracture and reform, Emp’s role subtly shifted. Though still bound, the imp’s presence became less a tool of direct control and more an echo of a past that refused to remain buried. How this bond endures, warps, or is ultimately broken remains unresolved, especially as Nerisai Tülverin moves further from who she once was and closer to what she is becoming.
