The fog clung low over the city docks, thick with the scent of brine, tar, and coal smoke. Timber creaked beneath the weight of cargo and timeworn boots, while gulls shrieked overhead like ragged heralds. From the side of a weather-beaten brig, a man disembarked; his coat once fine but now dulled by travel, stained at the hem and fraying at the cuffs.

A crooked top hat shadowed his face, and as he stepped onto the slick cobbles, he moved with the cautious pride of someone who remembered better days, but no longer expected them.

Edmund Dreymark had come back to Ilmaria from the Colonies and had come to get his father's will in order.

Mr Dreymark Senior had passed six days before and the funeral was this afternoon.

Eddy had until then to get himself acquainted with the city he once called home.
