Character
The piercing howl of the wind was a constant backdrop as Hildegunde von Vernichtung surveyed the battlefield below. Through the magnified scope of her rifle, every detail was sharp and unforgiving: the panicked scrambling of the enemy infantry, the shouting of orders, and the frantic efforts to position anti-air weaponry. But nothing could reach her and her squad at this altitude; not yet.
“Targets acquired.” Hildegunde’s voice was crisp, carrying over the squad's radio comm channel. “Mark priority officers. Engage at will.”
Her squad, clad in sleek black flight suits equipped with the Aetherial fueled Deep Air Insertion Gear (DAIG), scattered like ravens into formation. Each glimmered faintly as magical runes etched onto their gear pulsed with energy, stabilizing their flight against the harsh wind currents.
Hildegunde steadied herself, positioning her aetherial enhanced bolt action rifle against her shoulder. She took aim at a figure below clad in an ornate officer’s uniform, barking commands to his men.
A breath.
The whisper of incantation under her breath.
Crack.
The gun roared like thunder, sending a streak of glowing crimson straight through the officer’s chest. He crumpled, the life snuffed from his form before his men even realized what had happened.
“One down.” She murmured, her lips curling into a cold smirk. Below, chaos blossomed like a plague as officers and commanders scrambled for cover that didn’t exist.
Another shot. Another officer reduced to a lifeless heap.
Below, their anti-aircraft team finally managed to get a bead on them, heavy tracers lighting up the sky. But Hildegunde’s squad was already in motion, weaving through the open air like smoke against the backdrop of orange hued twilight. Their altitude and erratic maneuvers made them untouchable.
“Prepare for descent.” Hildegunde commanded. She slung her rifle over her shoulder, gripping her short carbine with one hand while drawing her bayonet with the other. The weapon gleamed unnaturally, inscribed with enchanted runes and thrumming with raw energy.
With a faint shimmer of her magical shield flaring to life around her, Hildegunde angled into a steep dive. Wind screamed past her ears as gravity and her DAIG propelled her downward at terrifying speed.
The ground rose swiftly to meet her as an officer’s terrified eyes locked onto hers.
Hildegunde crashed into him with the force of a meteor. Dust and shards of earth exploded outward as her magical shield absorbed the impact, protecting her from harm while splintering the bones of her foe. She wasted no time. Her bayonet plunged into his chest, the enchanted steel slicing through his ornate cuirass as if it were paper.
His gurgled cry cut short as she twisted the blade free, the runes flaring in malevolent satisfaction.
“Spread out and neutralize.” She barked over the comm, ducking as another soldier charged her. One fluid motion and her carbine roared, tearing through his abdomen at close range. Around her, her squad landed in devastating strikes, each a flurry of precision and lethal power.
The enemy broke, order dissolving into desperation.
Hildegunde's smirk widened, eyes alight with the manic glee of victory. “Sweep up the remnants. Show them the cost of defiance against the Imperium!”
